Dr. Mohan Baban Waman is a distinguished academic leader, botanist, and biodiversity expert with more than three decades of impactful contributions to higher education, research, and institutional development. He currently serves as the Vice-Chancellor of Dnyaan Prasad Global University, where he leads transformational initiatives in academics, research, innovation, and community engagement.

Dr. Waman holds a Ph.D. in Botany from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and is widely recognized for his pioneering work in angiosperm taxonomy, ethnobotany, and the conservation of rare, endemic, and threatened plant species. He has also served as an expert for the Biodiversity Assessment Project of the Kalsubai–Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary, contributing vital insights to regional conservation planning.

Over the course of his academic journey, Dr. Waman has held several key leadership positions, including Principal of Dr. D. Y. Patil ACS College, Akurdi, and Head of the Department of Botany at SMBST College, Sangamner. His long-standing association with SPPU includes service on major statutory bodies such as the Academic Council, Board of Studies, NSS Advisory Board, Avishkar Committee, BCUD, and NAAC committees. He is highly respected for strengthening research culture, fostering innovation, empowering students, and promoting community-centric biodiversity initiatives.

Dr. Waman has authored multiple books, completed several government-funded research projects, and published over 35 research papers in reputed national and international journals. He has represented India at prestigious global platforms, including the XVIII International Botanical Congress in Melbourne, Australia.

His outstanding contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Best Principal Award (SPPU, 2020–21), the Best Innovative Teacher Award, the Karmaveer Award, and an Honorary Doctorate (D.Litt.) from the Dr. Radhakrishnan Teacher’s Welfare Association. Beyond academics, he has played a pivotal role as an advisor and coordinator for state and national-level camps, capacity-building programs, and environmental initiatives in collaboration with forest departments, NGOs, and academic institutions.

As a recognized Ph.D. guide, Dr. Waman has mentored several research scholars and continues to contribute extensively to the fields of plant taxonomy, ethnomedicine, biodiversity conservation, environmental impact assessment, and sustainable development.
