Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups Cell

Introduction:

The Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups Cell (SEDG) at Dnyaan Prasad Global University has been constituted in accordance with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to promote inclusivity, equity, and equal access to quality education. The Cell is dedicated to protecting the rights, dignity, and academic welfare of students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds while fostering an environment of respect, opportunity, and empowerment. Through focused initiatives such as mentorship programs, earn-while-learn opportunities, and grievance redressal mechanisms, the SEDG Cell seeks to ensure holistic development, inclusive participation, and social justice across the University community.

Objectives of the SEDGs Cell:

  • Support and Empowerment:

    To provide academic, financial, psychological, and social assistance to students and staff belonging to socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including SC/ST/OBC communities, minorities, first-generation learners, and individuals from rural or tribal areas.

  • Equity and Inclusion:

    To promote inclusive practices in education and employment by ensuring equitable access to institutional resources, opportunities, and participation in decision-making processes.

  • Awareness and Sensitization:

    To organize workshops, seminars, and training programs aimed at sensitizing students, faculty, and administrative staff to the challenges and needs of socio-economically disadvantaged groups.

  • Policy Implementation and Monitoring:

    To ensure the effective implementation and regular monitoring of affirmative action policies, reservation provisions, and welfare schemes designed for disadvantaged groups.

  • Grievance Redressal:

    To serve as a forum for addressing and resolving issues, grievances, or instances of discrimination faced by members of socio-economically disadvantaged groups.

Key Activities:

  • Orientation and Induction Programs:

    Organizing orientation sessions to familiarize SEDG students with university systems, support services, and available welfare initiatives.

  • Collaboration with Government and External Agencies:

    Liaising with government bodies and other relevant organizations to facilitate access to scholarships, financial aid, and welfare schemes.

  • Career Guidance and Skill Development:

    Conducting career counseling, employability enhancement, and skill development programs designed to address the specific needs of marginalized and underrepresented groups.

  • Community Engagement and Outreach:

    Implementing community-based initiatives and outreach programs aimed at uplifting and connecting with disadvantaged communities in the surrounding regions.

  • Research and Institutional Development:

    Undertaking research studies on socio-economic disparities, inclusivity, and equitable access in higher education to inform policy and practice within the University.
